Our June Spotlight

A native of St. Petersburg Florida, Wanesha Spencer knows the true meaning of being raised by a village. Without notice, Wanesha was laying the foundation of her life at a young age. Giving credit to her grandparents, extended family, friends and teachers, Wanesha’s journey through life took many twist and turns carrying her through many life lessons along the way. Being carried by the winds of life, Wanesha has experienced moments of accomplishments along with moments of failure. Because of the encouragement that surrounded her, Wanesha learned to embrace every experience as a page in her story. Whenever she is in front of a group sharing her poetry, or pouring back into a community, she knows that her purpose is being fulfilled.
Here at Style-Ography, we wanted to know more about Wanesha’s journey and the amazing things that she’s been doing. So we asked what she felt her purpose was and we dug deeper into what she does. Check out her responses below.
Wanesha: In most cases, I try to stay away from cliché responses. However, I believe my ultimate purpose in life includes serving God while being a blessing to others. I’m extremely passionate about serving communities while helping families thrive. It is my belief that communities are empowered when families are empowered.
Style-Ography: What do you do exactly?
Wanesha: I am a Poet, Philanthropist, and Founder of The Ella Project LLC. Based in Atlanta GA. The Ella Project offers project based services that are specific to individual community needs. We have 3 focus areas which includes Kinship Care Initiatives, Ex-Offender Employment Support Services, and Communication Development Classes.
Style-Ography: What advice would you give to a group of young teen girls?
Wanesha: In a world where there is extreme pressure to live up to, society’s expectations of beauty and success, I encourage you to embrace who you were created to be by design. Your hardships are simply a page in your story. You are beautiful, talented and unique. Reach for the stars. Don’t place limits on your success. Surround yourself with positive like-minded friends who are traveling in the same direction. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Challenge yourself when necessary. Encourage and uplift the friends in your circle. Think about life beyond high school. Create vision boards for your future. Volunteer in your community and lastly understand that YOU are valuable.
